What Does Dedicated Servers Hosting Stand for?
When we speak of hosting web servers, there are three major categories - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate numerous clients and thus the resources per user account are restricted, virtual private servers give you more configuration liberty, but also influence other private virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if utilized rashly, and dedicated servers offer you the freedom to perform everything you decide without interfering with anyone else.
Why would you require a dedicated servers?
Dedicated servers are typically more expensive than shared or private virtual hosting servers, so why choose them? The answer is straightforward: if your company has a high-demand website or specific server setup needs, dedicated servers are the ideal option. For those willing to invest in security and reliability, the higher cost is worth it. You get full root access and exclusive use of the server's resources, ensuring no one else interferes with your websites.
Hardware specifications
The majority of hosting companies, incl. us at Servman, offer several different hardware architectures you can choose from in accordance with your needs. The hardware configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and hard disk drive sizes and different bandwidth quotas. You can choose a hosting CP, which is a handy software tool if you wish to utilize the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to a Secure Shell client for all the changes you will be making. We offer three types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The hosting CP of your choice
If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our dedicated web hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated servers via an SSH tunnel only. That, however, could be awkward, particularly if you decide to grant full server root privileges to somebody else who has less technical abilities than yourself. This is why having web hosting Control Panel software installed is a fine idea. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel GUI that we offer does not include full server root access and is chiefly suitable for someone who has numerous web pages that consume a lot of system resources, but prefers to manage the online portals, databases and email boxes through an easy-to-use web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant full server root privileges and have three levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting packages rather than utilizing the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should select one of these two.
Server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your web hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is desirable to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at Servman the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also an additional option - the web hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would permit you to keep the same data on two hard disk drives as a precaution in the event of a hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have granted access erases something by accident.
